Carrie Underwood “Mama’s Song”

Review by Amy Blizzard

It will come as little surprise to most music lovers that Carrie Underwood has continued her reign at the top of the country charts through the success of her most recent album ‘Play On’. The first three singles ‘Cowboy Casanova‘, ‘Temporary Home‘ and ‘Undo It‘ all quickly became memorable hits for her and now she is trying to continue that lucky streak with the release of ‘Mama’s Song’.

Written by Underwood alongside Luke Laird, Marti Frederiksen and fellow American Idol alum Kara DioGuardi, the storyline for ‘Mama’s Song’ coincides perfectly with the timing of the star’s summer wedding to hockey player Mike Fisher. While most songs that feature a daughter who is

approaching marriage place an emphasis on the father’s emotions, the new single from Underwood allows the mother of the bride to be in the spotlight.

In the simple and heartfelt lyrics she implores her mother not worry about her or be afraid to let go because she has found the type of man they both always wished she would.  She gushes that he is a faithful man who is truly good and treats her like a lady with a penchant for kindness, loyalty and respect.

At times, the song comes across as a mature follow-up to one of Underwood’s early singles ‘Don’t Forget To Remember Me’ and takes a more organic route than several of the more pop-oriented ditties in her repertoire. As always, Carrie Underwood supplies a superb and emotive vocal that highlights her soprano range and adds a very beneficial layer of depth to the easygoing, simplistic ballad’s low-key arrangement and repetitive rhythm.

While ‘Mama’s Song’ may not pack the immediate powerful punch of predecessors ‘Temporary Home’ or ‘So Small’ it is still nonetheless a delightful musical piece that will undoubtedly be making the rounds at many upcoming wedding ceremonies for years to come.

Carrie Underwood “Mama’s Song” Lyrics

Mama, you taught me to do the right things.
So, now you have to let your baby fly.
You’ve given me everything that I will need.
To make it through this crazy thing called life.
And I know you watched me grow up,
and only want what’s best for me.
And I think I found the answer to your prayers.

And he Is good, so good.
He treats your little girl,
like a real man should.
He is good, so good.
He makes promises he keeps.
No, he’s never gonna leave.
So, don’t you worry about me.
Don’t you worry about me.

Mama, there’s no way you’ll ever lose me.
Giving me away is not goodbye.
As you watch me walk down to my future,
I hope tears of joy are in your eyes.

Cause, he is good, so good.
And, he treats your little girl,
like a real man should.
He is good, so good.
He makes promises he keeps.
No, he’s never gonna leave.
So, don’t you worry about me.
Don’t you worry about me.

And when I watch my baby grow up,
I’ll only want what’s best for her.
And I hope she’ll find,
the answer to my prayers.
And that she’ll say…

He is good, so good.
And he treats your little girl,
like a real man should.
He is good, so good.
He makes promises he keeps.
No, he’s never gonna leave.
So, don’t you worry about me.
Don’t you worry about me.

Mama, don’t you worry about me.
Don’t you worry about me.
