Review by Amy Blizzard
A year has passed since soulful country crooner David Nail has released a new single to radio. Now, the long wait is over. Nail is starting off the new year with the release of ‘Let It Rain’, the follow-up to the nostalgic track ‘Turning Home’, which earned a spot on the country charts in the top twenty, and more impressively, a Grammy nomination for vocal performance.
Upon hearing the song title ‘Let It Rain’, it is easy to jump to assumptions and imagine a ballad about pure love with lyrics inspired from romantic films where the male and female lead create a moment of cinematic lure while they kiss in a downpour. David Nail will make you think twice. In an interesting
contrast against the influx of tunes besotted with a theme of love that frequently circulate on radio stations as Valentine’s Day draws near, ‘Let It Rain’ tells the tale of love lost.
Nail steps into the role of a man whose marriage is now falling apart due to the night he strayed and forgot about the profound commitment that should have been symbolized by a wedding ring on his left hand. Now, he is left to face the consequences on his own.
The choppy arrangement that starts off the song is vaguely reminiscent of Lady Antebellum’s signature hit ‘Need You Now’ and does well to set the melancholy tone for the power ballad. As always, the main star of the performance are David Nail’s voluminous and emotive vocals, which are even further complimented by Sarah Buxton singing in the background.
Other highlights of ‘Let It Rain’ include of the combination of country and pop touches that create a modern sound without alienating the genre and the chorus which is memorable and catchy. Despite the inherent sadness and somber subject matter, there is an underlining palatability in the single that makes you want to sing along even during the first listen.

David Nail “Let It Rain” Lyrics
It’s hard to find the perfect time to say something
you know, is gunna change everything
Living with the shame,
it ain’t nothing like the pain that I saw on her face
Now me and my pile of things
that she throw out the window,
Drowning next to me
No seven years of good cant hide the one night I forgot to wear that ring
So let it rain, let it pour, if she don’t love me anymore,
Just let it come down on me, let it come down on me,
Every word, let it hurt, even more than I deserve,
Let it come down on me, let it come down on me, let it rain
Best thing I remember was the young familiar taste of someone on my lips,
It’s to late to turn around,
When the shades start coming down,
The guilt you feels the last thing on your mind
So let it rain, let it pour, if she don’t love me anymore,
Just let it come down on me, let it come down on me,
Every word, let it hurt, even more than I deserve,
just let it come down on me, let it come down on me, let it rain
So let it rain, let it pour, if she don’t love me anymore,
Just let it come down on me, let it come down on me,
every word, let it hurt, even more than I deserve, just let it come down on me,
let it come down on me, let it rain,
Ooh let it rain, ooh let it rain, just let it rain, just let it rain, ooh let it rain
