Review by Matthew Fortuna
Easton Corbin is the country throwback of the 2010s. His sound reflects back to the early 1990s sound that found the genre booming. He reminds of a soft-singing Garth Brooks, a serious George Strait or an Alan Jackson in the heights of his early career. Though new to the genre himself, Corbin is already starting to make an impact. He has a debut extended play under his belt, with 2010’s “A Little More Country Than That,” and followed up with his first self-titled album.
The third single from the album is Corbin’s latest release. Title “I Can’t Love You Back,” it follows on the heels of “Roll With It” and “A Little More Country Than That.” The song is decidedly slower than the
freewheeling “Roll With It” and the country-twanged “More Country.” His first love song showing, “I Can’t Love You Back” shows the softer side of the singer and brings out the inner George Strait with a confident vocal and a non-nonsense style that lays down strong vocals over light piano and guitar.
Written by collaborator and producer Carson Chamberlain, the song has helped propel the album to as high as number four on U.S. country charts and a coveted spot high on critics lists throughout the country. Corbin is still growing into his talent, and has opened a number of concerts for acts like Eric Church, Montgomery Gentry and Little Big Town throughout the year.
“I Can’t Love You Back” follows a tried and true formula: a simple song with a heartfelt message and a flawless execution. It is a mirror image of the style Corbin’s early career has taken, and the simple yet strong execution of his songs has managed him quite a following, as many eagerly look forward to the blossoming of what is poised to become a successful career.

Easton Corbin “I Can’t Love You Back” Lyrics
I can love you in the morning
I can love you all day
I can love you even more when I get home
I can love you every second
to the ends of the earth
Where needing you’s the only thing that’s on
my broken one track mind
Girl, I love you crazy
It comes so easy, after all we had
I could love you with all my heart
But the hardest part is
I just can’t love you back
I could write a thousand letters
Call a hundred times a day
Or try to drown my sorrow at the bar
I could go down to the church
Get on my knees and pray
But it still won’t change the way things really are
Won’t bring you back again
Girl, I love you crazy
It comes so easy, after all we had
I could love you with all my heart
But the hardest part is
I just can’t love you back
I can love you for all I’m worth
To the ends of the earth
But I just can’t love you back
