Review by Amy Blizzard
‘Revolution‘ has proven to be a career changing album for country sensation Miranda Lambert that turned her into both a critical and popular favorite and a multi-award winning artist. Though success started slowly with the lead-off single ‘Dead Flowers‘, things quickly improved for Lambert with her second and third releases ‘White Liar‘ and ‘The House That Built Me‘, which dominated radio stations nationwide and hit number one on the charts. Now, she is aiming to stay on top with the release of her new track ‘Only Prettier’.
Written by Lambert with a helping hand from Natalie Hemby, ‘Only Prettier’ embraces rural twang and puts a different spin on the previously conceived notions associated with Southern belles. She
acknowledges the cattiness and modern day ‘mean girls’ trend that frequently exists between young women with a bit of sarcastic and sardonic humor and sassy wit.
She includes the well-known joke of how a Southern lady can say how she really feels with a simple, low-key ‘bless your heart’ and encourages peace between rivals. Lambert insists girls like her who enjoy their drinking and swearing really do have a lot in common with the ones sitting across the party lines- only they are prettier.
‘Only Prettier’ is a creative and ambitious piece of music that channels a bit of an old-fashioned 1950′s rockabilly touch. Miranda Lambert presents a twangy, feisty and energetic vocal in the vein of signature style that made her a star years ago. The occasionally raucous and chaotic musical arrangement for the tune takes some getting used to at first, but after a few listens, it becomes more palatable to the ear. The new song may not follow the trend of ‘White Liar’ and ‘The House That Built Me’ and hit the number one spot on the charts, but it could still prove to be another successful single for Lambert.

“Only Prettier” Lyrics
Well I’ve been saved by the grace of Southern charm
I got a mouth like a sailor and yours is more like a Hallmark card
And if you wanna pick a fight
Well I’m gonna have to say goodnight
I don’t have to be hateful, I can just say bless your heart
And even though I don’t belong with your high life friends
It doesn’t mean we don’t get together and try to make amends
It’s easier can’t you see
Let’s agree to just disagree
We don’t have to like each other but it’s sure fun to pretend
So let’s shake hands and reach across those party lines
You’ve got your friends just like I’ve got mine
We might think a little differently
But we got a lot in common you will see
We’re just like you
Only prettier
Everybody says you’ve gotta know your enemies
Even if they only weigh a hundred pounds and stand five foot three
If you just smile and behave you can always get your way
It’s a universal plan that’ll get you where you can in all societies
So let’s shake hands and reach across those party lines
You’ve got your friends just like I’ve got mine
We might think a little differently
But we got a lot in common you will see
We’re just like you
Only prettier
Well, I’ll keep drinkin’
And you’ll keep gettin’ skinnier
I’m just like you
Only prettier
