We have no health care reform. George W. Bush’s wars are still going. There’s no climate legislation. Waste is up, the bailout money hasn’t brought economic recovery outside of the walls of corporations. Oh, but Congress is on the job today… passing H.Res 650, a resolution that recognizes the “tremendous contribution to American life and culture” from country music. Thanks for the help, Capitol Hill.

Native Oklahoman Bryan White knows just enough about Dust Bowls to be an expert. After seventeen singles on Billboard’s Country Charts, a mantle full of country music awards, two platinum records and six number one singles including “Someone Else’s Star” (1995), “Rebecca Lynn” (1996), “So Much for Pretending” (1996) and “Sittin’ on Go” (1997), his music career came up dry. For the last decade, White has toured intermittently, worked on several small projects and continued songwriting.

Taylor Lautner and Taylor Swift could have brought their on-screen romance into real life. The “Twilight” hunk has been pictured hugging her “Valentine’s Day” co-star when attending her concert in Chicago on Friday, October 9. The country music singer actually greeted several other people, who sat in the front row, with hugs after she wrapped the gig. However, she embraced Lautner longer than anyone else. Soon after that, the audiences at the venue started screaming.

The Americana talent pool is currently very, very full of fish. And rightly so, seeing as it demands its own title, based loosely on a subset of American folk and alterative country music. One fish that has really caught the bait is Doug Paisley , an artist who has been swimming the Americana pool for quite some time. From Toronto, Paisley is signed to No Quarter records and has toured alongside Bonnie “Prince” Billy under the name Dark Hand and Lamplight, a mixed media collaboration between him and artist Shary Bole.

I have always liked Kellie Pickler. I liked her on American Idol, I’ve liked all of her songs so far, and I really enjoyed her at the Washington County Fair in Abingdon, Va., last year. The pictures on this post are from that show in Abingdon. So I was really happy to read an article in the Chicago Tribune, by Luis Arroyave, on Oct. 12, that was titled “Kellie Pickler won’t leave her first love – country music”. To that I say, “Good for you, Kellie.” Because we like you just the way you are.

I have a weakness for songs that mix in elements of fate, particularly love songs. Like no other genre, the best country music has the ability to make me not only believe in but feel invested in the journey of a man and woman. But to make this type of song effective, an artist has to deliver a touching if not stirring melody, one that has enough distinction to match the message. On the contrary, while “History in the Making” describes what could be a once-in-a-lifetime moment, the melody and production feel a dime a dozen.

“ Dancing With The Stars ” is back tonight with dancers doing the Charleston, the Two-Step, the Bolero, and the Lambada. Debi Mazar and partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy were voted off of the show, while Tom DeLay couldn’t cope with the hardship on his feet. Chuck Liddell and Anna Trebunskaya are up first with their version of the country Two-Step. Anna really carried the performance, but it was hard to watch, due to the fact that I am no fan of country music.

Apparently as Chris was getting the news about it via a phone call from his label, he heard a familar voice come on over the other end of the line to congratulate him- it was Kenny Chesney !

Covers albums are not an exact science. Kid gloves are necessary when an artist records an already perfect song. How does one make a timeless classic sound fresh and new without sounding contrived and forced. Rosanne Cash’sThe List may not be the end-all covers album, and to be honest it isn’t. But is a pleasant retreading of music that is quintessential to country music, and for that matter the American songbook. The record’s concept stems from a list of 100 essential country songs that her father provided for her after she graduated high school.

Oprah Winfrey did a surprise gonzo show taping Monday right in the middle of the State Fair of Texas. Oprah, a Nashville native, wore cowboy boots adn a hat she bought at the fair the day before. She also brought along a true life country singer, one Martina McBride , according to ABC. Apparently, it was quite a scene — folks came by with products they invented that they wanted Oprah to endorse, and lots of people were overcome by heat waiting for the “surprise” taping to start.

Music City USA native Rob Sanders will be strapped into his first-ever Ken-Ten Series Late Model machine this weekend as drivers converge on the historical Fairgrounds Speedway near downtown Nashville to compete for 125 action-packed laps in the Ken-Ten Series Bobby Hamilton Sr. Memorial. The 20-year-old Sanders, who will compete this weekend in the #188 Chevrolet Late Model, captured the Legends Pro Series championship title and the guitar trophy that accompanied the victory at the Fairgrounds Speedway in 2008, so he is no stranger to .596-mile oval asphalt short track.

Australian country artist, Shea Fisher ( @SheaFisherMusic ) filmed a music video featuring a Malibu Boats ( @MalibuBoats ) Wakesetter VLX. The video for her song Just The Excuse, from the album "Everyday Girl." One of our Facebook friends , Jake Wojcicka, sent us the link to Fisher's YouTube Channel . Tonight is the big Musicians Hall of Fame inductions, and that always means a big star comes to honor at least one of the inductees. This year, Rascal Flatts will be at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center to honor one of those inductees, the rock band Toto . In fact, it’s gonna be the finale to the show: Flatts will be on stage with Toto to do some of the big hits, like Africa and Rosanna . My personal fave: Hold the Line . But I digress. We’re pretty sure that S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford and Lt. Gov. Intern Jenny here! Nick Lachey stopped through Nashville today, helping stuff backpacks with food and snacks for kids in need. News 2 caught up with him this morning. Turns out he actually visits Nashville fairly often! As he put it, it’s just a “hop and a skip” from where he’s from- Cincinnati, OH. And, would you believe that he actually spent some time living in Spring Hill, TN? “A buddy and myself, we set up a production company, and we were doing some songwriting and stuff.
