Review by Amy Blizzard
Randy Houser made a fine debut onto country radio with his single ‘Anything Goes’ a couple of years ago and followed up his grand entrance with the smash hit ‘Boots On’, which also became a popular music video on CMT due to an inventive concept. Since then, Houser has unfortunately lost steam on the charts, but now he is attempting to make his return back to the top with the new single ‘A Man Like Me’, taken from his sophomore album ‘They Call Me Cadillac’.
The mid-tempo that Houser penned alongside songwriters Danny Green and Jameson Clark around five years ago came to life when he felt the need to write a song that focused more heavily upon a sense of
traditional country music. The end result happened to be a tune about raw emotion and gratitude from an everyday man who is expressing his appreciation for the special woman in his life.
He is humbled by her and does not feel worthy of her kindness and love and considers himself inferior by comparison. In fact, he even wonders why she stayed at his side during his struggles and takes time to thank God that she did.
‘A Man Like Me’ carries a sense of nostalgia from yesteryear that has rightfully earned comparisons to icon Conway Twitty. The concept is an old-fashioned one, nestled within the opulent supply of songs that have appeared on radio in all genres and told the story of a man who has been saved by a woman.
While the lyrical content is not evolutionary it is nonetheless innately and subtly charming. Randy Houser presents a low-key vocal that is gritty and full of character during the chorus and more calmly emotive in the verses.
‘A Man Like Me’ does easily manage to stand out amongst the other songs currently in radio circulation but it may leave country fans’ opinions to be split due to an arrangement that aggressively combines both retro and modern day stylings. However, music lovers who have been eager to hear a more traditional touch in the mainstream market have had their wish successfully granted.

Randy Houser “A Man Like Me” Lyrics
Well I don’t do things like I used to
Well I don’t stay gone like I used to
Well I don’t drop the ball, let everything go wrong
No I don’t do things like I used to
And I can’t believe the way you love me
Well I don’t deserve the way you love me
Well I’ve caused so many tears, honey why are you still here
Well I can’t believe the way you love me
Well I wake up every morning
Glad another day is dawning
And I start my day with a kiss and a cup of coffee
Man I sure don’t wanna leave
As soon as I’m gone I wanna get back home
And love you all night long
Honey, once you fall asleep
I’m gonna hit my hands and knees
Yea and thank God he made a woman
Love a man like me
Well I’d do anything, girl to keep you
Forever in these arms I’m gonna hold you
Well I’ve come to understand, just how lucky I am
Well words just can’t explain how much I need you
Well I wake up every morning
Glad another day is dawning
And I start my day with a kiss and a cup of coffee
Man I sure don’t wanna leave
As soon as I’m gone I wanna get back home
And love you all night long
Honey, once you fall asleep
I’m gonna hit my hands and knees
Yea and thank God he made a woman
Love a man like me
Well I wake up every morning
Glad another day is dawning
And I start my day with a kiss and a cup of coffee
Man I sure don’t wanna leave
As soon as I’m gone I wanna get back home
And love you all night long
Honey, once you fall asleep
I’m gonna hit my hands and knees
Yea and thank God he made a woman
Love a man like me
Thank God he made a woman
Love a man like me
