Review by Amy Blizzard
With her last album ‘Keep On Loving You’, Reba McEntire proved she has not lost any of her charm or skill and is still a force to be reckoned with on the country charts. The singles ‘Strange‘, ‘Consider Me Gone‘ and ‘Keep On Loving You‘ all faired well with both fan and critical reception and helped McEntire’s massive fan base expand to include a younger demographic. Now, the multifaceted talent is aiming to keep that same unprecedented momentum going as she prepares for the release of another album, which is currently scheduled to drop on November 9th.
Fans and radio listeners are receiving their first peek of her new material through the leadoff single ‘Turn
On the Radio’. Written by Cherie Oakley (who also provides background vocals) alongside Mark Oakley and J.P. Twang, the song finds McEntire playing her signature role as an independent woman.
Surprisingly similar in theme to the 2008 Kristy Lee Cook single ‘Fifteen Minutes of Shame’, the storyline follows a former lying, cheating ex who is trying to reach out again to the woman he treated badly. In typical, feisty Reba fashion- she does not play along with his games and instead decides to get the last laugh. He can call, tweet and text until his fingers bleed, but the only way he will heard from her is by turning on his radio.
The new single from McEntire continues within the meandering pattern of her last album and embraces a youthful vibe. ‘Turn On the Radio’ is an uptempo that combines country with pop along with the appearance of a few rock-worthy guitar solos. While undoubtedly fun, the song’s arrangement at times borders on being chaotic and it is not as instantly catchy as some of her previous hits like ‘Fancy’, ‘Tell Me Why’ or the more recent ‘Consider Me Gone’ and may struggle to rapidly find an audience. However, Reba McEntire’s strong vocals, as always, do not disappoint.

Reba’s “Turn On The Radio” Lyrics
No Good, Two Timing, Lies coming outta your mouth.
Cheating, mistreating games that you play brought you down.
Broke my heart, tore it apart, look who’s got the last laugh now.
Don’t you come crawling’ begging please on your knees, baby if you’re missing me.
Well, you can hear me on the radio
You wanna turn me on, turn on your stereo.
You can sing along, while they’re playing our song. How you done me wrong…
Baby crank it up
Until you blow the speakers out your Chevy truck.
So listen Romeo, when you’re feeling kinda lonely, let me tell you where to go.
Turn On The Radio
Try to call, twitter me, text until your fingers bleed.
Oh! The DJ’s the only way you’re ever gonna hear from me.
If you’re reminiscing, and you’re missing me this much, and you really wanna stay in touch.
Well, you can hear me on the radio
You wanna turn me on, turn on your stereo.
You can sing along, while they’re playing my song. How you done me wrong…
Baby crank it up
Until you blow the speakers out your Chevy truck.
So listen Romeo, when you’re feeling kinda lonely, let me tell you where to go. Oh
Turn On The Radio!
Whoaaoooa!
Turn On The Radio
Turn On The Radio
Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Ohh
Oh! You can hear me on the radio
When you’re feeling kinda lonely.
