Reel Big Fish: Cut Loose By Major Label

In early 2006, Reel Big Fish were dropped from the label’s roster, which had now morphed into Jive Records (Reel Big Fish were the only active ska-punk act on a roster that featured pop sensations Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys) after years of begging to be cut loose. Reel Big Fish celebrated the freedom from the chains of jive they had so wanted and needed for so long. In fact, Aaron Barret recalled “That was the most excited the band has been in ten years, I’ve never seen the guys smile that big!”

No Label No Problem For Reel Big Fish

The first album of the group’s newfound freedom have finally finished production and could only fit into a live double-CD and DVD set, titled Our Live Album is Better Than Your Live Album. This is The Reel Big Fish first official live full-length effort.

Produced by Vocalist and guitarist Aaron Barrett, the songs were recorded over a seven-day swing of the band’s West Coast tour in January 2006. The release features 30 songs, including a bonus unreleased track written during the sessions of We’re Not Happy ‘Til You’re Not Happy, “So Much For Rock N’ Roll,” and a cover of The Cure’s “Boys Don’t Cry.”

Live Album An Excuse To Re-Record

“Basically the live album is just an excuse to re-record everything,” says Barrett. “That’s where we’ve always felt most comfortable. When we’re on stage, we just feel better about playing.” There is also going to be an accompanying DVD that will feature 20 songs filmed from a live show in April 2006 at The Alley in Fullerton, Calif. It will also contain several special DVD features include practice footage, a small documentary, interviews with band members and even a photo gallery.
