Tim McGraw “Felt Good On My Lips”

Review by Matthew Fortuna

Tim McGraw is fresh off of tightening his acting belt with a standout performance in “The Blind Side,” and releasing one of his most cohesive and eclectic albums to date in “Southern Voice.” And still the man refuses to take a break from delighting audiences and dominating airwaves. His most recent single, “It Felt Good On My Lips,” has clear song of the year potential and is a promotional release from the singer’s upcoming #1 Hits collection.

“It Felt Good On My Lips” is the first single since the top 20 hit “Still” and follows in a string of 20 straight singles since 2003 that have reached the top 20. The vibe is more upbeat than much of

“Southern Voice,” and represents a return to the true pop magic that has highlighted a career into its 17th year. The song is all Tim McGraw – a pure vehicle for the voice and style that has made McGraw a legendary front man in the genre.

The song features a unique writing style that invokes thoughts of “somewhere in Spain,” an exotic love and infectious couplets that find McGraw speeding up his generally sweet and slow vocals. Whatever style Tim McGraw is working with in the song, and he does change it around during both the bridge and chorus, it feels good coming off of his lips.

The instrumental break is a skillful benefit of being one of the top draws in the genre, and the song is sure to be a highlight of the greatest hits collection that will feature some of the more memorable country songs of the 1990s and 2000s. Fresh off of a nationwide tour with Lady Antebellum, McGraw continues to work his music and acting in new and fresh ways, and “It Felt Good on My Lips” sounds like new country from a refreshing old voice.

Tim McGraw “Felt Good On My Lips” Lyrics

Said her name was a hand me down name
From the side of a family that long ago came
Over here on a boat from somewhere in Spain
Sounded to me just a little bit strange, I guess.
But I have to admit
It felt good on my lips.

She tipped the DJ to play her favorite song
A Spanish little number that was a rocking on strong
She took my by the seat and said lets go and get it on
By the second chorus I was singing right along with it
I don’t know what it meant
But it felt good on my lips.

Oh oh oh I wanna go crazy
You can go crazy too
Oh oh oh I wanna go crazy
Wanna go crazy with you
Everybody saying’ whoaaa how sweet it is
(whoaa oooh)
Whoaaa, yeah it felt good on my lips

She ordered us a drink
It was a purple kind of pink
She said it’s got a shot of a little bit of everything
Mellow yellow umbrella for a fella like me
It was just a bit mellow for me to be sing with
But I took a sip
Yeah it felt good on my lips

Oh oh oh I wanna go crazy
You can go crazy too
Oh oh oh I wanna go crazy
Wanna go crazy with you
Everybody saying whoaaa how sweet it is
(whoaa oooh)
Whoaaa oh, yeah it felt good on my lips

guitar solo

When the lights came on and they hollered last call
I was busy getting lost in her cherry lip gloss
In a little corner both i don’t like no talk
She leaned in close and gave me one long
And with one goodnight goodbye kiss
And It felt good on my lips

Whooaa oh how sweet it is
(whoaa oooh)
Whoaaaa oooooh (oooh)
Whooaa oh how sweet it is
(whoaa oooh)
Whoa ooooh, yeah it felt good on my lips
