The first time I saw Corey Smith play was in an old chicken house in our hometown of Jefferson Georgia in the mid nineties. He was playing with his new band, getting ready for a gig at "Classics", which used to be the "Night Owl" in Athens Georgia. I was impressed with Corey's songwriting event then. I think he was still in high school at the time, and he stood out among a good group of muscians (for kids our age).

Now he's selling out Chastain and the Classic Center (and likely the Tabernacle) and everybody who's anybody in independent music is talking about this guy from Jefferson who's become a prime example of the impact Myspace has had on the music industry. And he constantly gives back. Take The Jefferson Police Department for instance:
Corey Smith: A show to benefit the "Po Po"
If you can, try to get to Jefferson on November 1st to get a couple of tickets to see Corey play his High School alma matter, Jefferson High School. He'll be playing a benefit for the JHS performing arts department, Better Hometown Jefferson Streetscape Enhancement projects, and get this....... The JPD DUI Education Program... Now tell me Corey Smith ain't a great guy.

Corey Smith is playing The Tabernacle on Friday November 28th.
I've got my tickets: You'd best get yours while you can. If you've never seen Corey Smith live, you've never really heard Corey Smith. The energy at his shows is like a "Greatful Dead for Rednecks" kinda vibe and its positively awesome. This former High School teacher has struck a cord in southern music, and his great songwriting, and don't forget business savy endures him to new fans everyday on his website, myspace, and I'd like to think HERE.
