Craig Morgan "Bonfire"

Country crooner Craig Morgan is paying tribute to his Tennessee roots and lazy summer nights with the release of his new single, 'Bonfire', from the recent reissue of his album 'That's Why Craig Morgan "Bonfire"'. The track is a playful ode to 'country backwoods homegrown hicks' who know how to have a good time out in the sticks around a bonfire, making their own fun.

In an open space filled with parked cars, trucks and SUVs blasting AC/DC and a roaring bonfire you can see 'from the river or the top of White Pine Ridge, burning like a summer sun' a group of small town folks prepare to party. Using the fire's glow as artificial sunlight, Craig Morgan and the locals (including nearby law enforcement) live up the night taking swigs and dancing jigs and even extend an invitation to those who live

beyond the boondocks to come over and get rowdy. 'You don't have to be from around here to know right where to go. All you gotta' do is load up and head toward the glow.'

'Bonfire' combines the traditions of country with an edge of partying rock that give the track a down-home appeal and make it sound like Morgan and a few partygoers turned off the AC/DC records, grabbed a couple of guitars and banjos and started an impromptu jam-session. In the wrong hands, a tune about 'a bunch of rednecks gettin' half lit' could easily come across as a contrived attempt at success or even a comical insult. But there is a sincerity in Morgan's authentic Southern drawl and a charm in his delivery that keep 'Bonfire' from being offensive and provide the steam needed for the song to rise to the top of the charts.

  1. this is the kind of song that people who mock country as music for ignorant hicks will use as Exhibit A.

This song is inoffensive, but it has nothing going for it. No catchy hook. No story to tell. No clever wordplay or anything interesting musically.

This song is an album filler cut at best.

  2. I’m not from a small town or back road community, but I can still appreciate the nostalgia and reminiscence Morgan has instilled in this new single.

No, it doesn’t tell a story, but not every country song does. It is an expression and celebration of boondocks everywhere. I don’t see how it points to any ignorance whatsoever.

  3. This coming from someone who has RIPtouchesbabieswheretheypee as a name. Tell me the story of the Thriller… Or the baby dangler… Theres exhibit A for ya.

  4. Yeah RIPboytoucher, did you ever stop and think that maybe your an unintelligent douchebag? This is a drinking song and a good one at that! No catchy hook? GOOD! I hate listening to songs with 2 sentences repeated over and over again. That’s 4 minutes of my life I will never get back! You probably haven’t even heard this song before. Sorry this song wasn’t a crappy rap song with the lying, plastic faced, rappers that repeat themselves over and over again and constantly talk about killing people and treating women like garbage. I’m so very sorry. I know you haven’t got the sense God gave a turnip so I’ll let you know that last part was sarcasm.

  5. When it says white pine ridge where is he talking about? the white pine in Jeff county TN or another one? Thanks again awsome song
