Danny Gokey "My Best Days Are Ahead Of Me
Review by Matthew Fortuna
One of a parade of talented, up-and-coming country music artists to emerge from the glitter and glamour of American Idol, Danny Gokey is cut from a rare cloth. The singer from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, took third place in the eight season of the talent search show in 2009. Today, Gokey is releasing the debut single from an anticipated debut album.
Hitting country radios in December, “My Best Days Are Ahead of Me” is a pop-country jam in the spirit of Wes Carr and Jason Mraz, and features an upbeat acoustic instrumental. The song is heavy on positivity and exudes confidence and looking forward to the future. As the song title would indicate, Gokey doesn’t get lost in the past, and known that “age ain’t nothing but a number.”
Singing for RCA Nashville, Gokey emerged as a church singer, singing contemporary Christian before hitting the national television spotlight. Recently, he has written songs with Lady Antebellum and has began to produce an image that carries on from his clean-cut, bespectacled image that nation grew to love in January 2009.
Gokey relies on a powerful voice and upbeat optimism, and his song carries some tragic poignancy. Gokey’s wife, who he had been with for 12 years, recently passed away this due to complications from heart disease. Through the tragedy, Danny Gokey no doubt is carrying on strongly and insists that his best days are ahead of him. The singer has also established a foundation in her name.
With the enthusiasm and obvious talent and charisma and many of the American Idol contestants who reach the top levels of the show, Gokey looks to translate a large following on the television into a large stage, radio and record following, and with his courage, style, talent and voice, he should have no trouble gathering fans and admirers in-time for his March 2010 album debut.

"My Best Days Are Ahead Of Me" Lyrics
Blowing out the candles
on another birthday cake
Old enough to look back and laugh at my mistakes
Young enough to look at the future and like what I see
My best days are ahead of me
Life hasn't always been a party
but mostly it's been good
There's only one or two things that I'd change if I could
I don't get lost in the past or get stuck in some sad memory yah
My best days are ahead of me
Age is nothing but a number
Sometimes I have to wonder
What does it really mean
But hey im still putting it together
I keep getting better
if I keep getting better
I can be whatever I want to be
My best days are ahead of me
Age is nothing but a number
Sometimes I have to wonder
What does it really mean
But hey i'm still putting it together
I keep getting better
if I keep getting better
I can be whatever I want to be
My best days are ahead of me
I've got sunsets to witness
dreams to dance with
beaches to walk on
and lovers to kiss
there's a whole lot of world out there
that I can't wait to see
My best days are ahead of me
My best days are ahead of me

Really looking forward to Danny Gokey’s album. This single is very fun and upbeat, and he’s been doing several other really appealing songs on his ongoing tour of country music radio stations. Hoping to catch a live show where he’s appearing later this week.

I really like this song “My Best Days Are Ahead of Me”! I can’t wait for it to be available for purchase on 12/22! I knew from the moment I saw Danny on American Idol that he was a very special person in not only his talent and his voice, but his heart – Amazing!
My Best Days Are Ahead of Me is an appropriate motto for Danny Gokey. From Tragedy to Triumph…his story has touched us all. Danny Gokey and Sophia’s Heart Foundation are truly One Heart Touching Many. Looking forward to the release of this song, as well as the release of his album.

I am absolutely on pins & needles waiting for the official release of My Best Days on 12/22 and for the whole album in March. I was a fan of Danny Gokey’s from the very beginning on Idol. I rooted for and voted my fingers off each and every week. I know that he will be a huge success in the music industry. He’s the best!
Thanks for the great review. I have always loved Danny’s big, rich, bluesy, souful voice. Really looking forward to the album. I see nothing but great things ahead for Danny. Congratulations!
My Best Days Are Ahead of Me is fantastic! This is just the type of song I wanted from Danny. Like someone else mentioned, this is not the only good song we’ve heard from the upcoming album. I cannot wait for that to be released.
Did Danny write with Lady A though? I know his song It’s Only was written by Dave & Charles with their co-writer Tom, but didn’t understand Danny had a direct role in the songwriting. Either way, that’s another great song for Danny’s debut album.
Loocking so forward to buying Dannys’ CD, my first country album ever purchased.
If what we’ve heard so far is any indication, this is gonna be one excellent album. So happy for Danny! (I think Steph is right though that he didn’t cowrite with Lady A) He is a most talented guy, love that voice!
I’m a big fan of Danny Gokey’s soulful voice, performance style and his efforts to combine his music with his non-profit foundation: sophiasheart.com. This song showcases his positive outlook on life and his high energy. I can’t wait for the whole album’s release! Big things ahead for Mr. Gokey!
I just saw Danny at Turner Hall in his hometown of Milwaukee last night and really wasn’t sure what to expect. I loved his voice on Idol and he quickly became my favorite. I was nervous and excited to see what he had to offer last night and believe me……………I was NOT disappointed. He delivered, once again, that beautiful voice of his and some really great music that I immediately took a liking to. And, I have to say, his voice is just as good live as it is on the album. He has truly been blessed with a a gift and I have a feeling he will be touching the hearts and ears of A LOT of people on his tour coming up; and gain some new fans.
