George Strait "Twang"
Review by Amy Blizzard

Widely acclaimed and awarded living legend George Strait is proving he still has the chops to make it alongside the youthful heavyweights in today's turbulent music industry. Over the spring and summer, he returned to the country charts with the poignant, sorrowful ballad 'Living For the Night' and the Spanish-flavored cover 'El Rey'. And now in autumn, he is making his third appearance with the single 'Twang', taken from his current album of the same name.
Written by Jim Lauderdale, Kendall Marvel and Jimmy Ritchey, 'Twang' places Strait securely in his niche and is a piece of pure country. Lighthearted and upbeat, the ditty focuses on having fun after a week filled with relentless hard work. Co-workers and friends pack into a little bar down the road to enjoy a few cold beers and spill five dollars worth of quarters into an old jukebox full of classic country

tunes from Hank and company.
And in no time at all, through the aid of a little twang (and a little alcohol), bad moods are lifted. The crowd begins to get in touch with their inner hillbilly side and are stamping their feet, whistling wildly, getting rowdy and are inspired to stay until closing time.
'Twang" is reminiscent of the rousing tunes that dominated the charts in the 1990's by bringing together the fibers of old-fashioned styles of country and bluegrass and infusing them with more modern sounds that created top hits for acts like Brooks & Dunn, Dixie Chicks, Alan Jackson and, obviously, the man who went on to earn the nickname 'King George'. With limited lyrics and a catchy chorus, the up-tempo instantly makes you want to sing along and is filled with the authentic, honky-tonk sounds the title alludes to. George Strait delivers a vocal that is both enchanting and refreshing and could propel 'Twang' to soon be one of the universally favored country tunes playing on an old jukebox in a crowded bar.

Lyrics for "Twang"
When I get off of work on Friday after working like a dog all week
I go to meet the boys for a cold one at a little joint up the street
They got a jukebox in the corner full of old country tunes
Feed it five dollars worth of quarters is the first thing I always do
'Cause I need a little twang
A little hillbilly bending on some guitar strings
Some peddle steel whining like a whistle of an old freight train
To get that foot stomping honkey tonkin' feeling going through my veins
I need a little twang, twang, twang
Well, I like a lot of kinds of music
I try to keep an open mind
Depending on the mood to strike me
If I'm gonna stay till closing time
So when I wanna lift my spirits to get me feeling worth a dang
I know I'm gonna have to heart it
'Cause I gotta have some Hank to hang
'Cause I need a little twang
A little hillbilly bending on some guitar strings
Some peddle steel whining like a whistle of an old freight train
To get that foot stomping honkey tonkin' feeling going through my veins
I need a little twang, twang, twang
'Cause I need a little twang
A little hillbilly bending on some guitar strings
Some peddle steel whining like a whistle of an old freight train
To get that foot stomping honkey tonkin' feeling going through my veins
I ned a little twang, twang, twang
I need a little twang, twang, twang
