Jack Ingram "Barefoot and Crazy"
Review by Matt Fortuna
Jack Ingram’s upcoming seventh studio album Big Dreams and High Hopes just may be the piece that propels the 38-year old into the country music stratosphere. If it does, Ingram will owe quite a bit to the summer-lovin’, flip-floppin’, beer-drinkin’ “Barefoot and Crazy.”
An early spring hit already, “Barefoot and Crazy,” the upcoming album’s second single is poised to serve as a rockin’ summer anthem in the same vein as “These Are My People,” or the best of vintage Kenny Chesney.

Jack Ingram is Barefoot and Crazy
With an intro that preludes a rocker (the opening sounds more like a hip-hop song), Ingram breathes a fierce life into the fun-loving lyrics, all while sitting atop an infectious guitar riff for three verses.
“Barefoot and Crazy” is nothing if not an anthem for good times and summer fun, and the song’s syncopated energy gives that extra push out the door. Sings Ingram:
“The sun is droppin’, we got the fire poppin’
And it’s lightin’ up her blue eyes
With a little bit of luck, it’ll heat things up
And we’ll be lovin’ in the moonlight
Break out my old guitar, sing fishin’ in the dark
Baby get ready.”
Following lead-off single “That’s A Man,” “Barefoot and Crazy” is a far cry from past successes “Lips of an Angel” and “Measure of a Man,” but the song’s energy proves that Ingram may have some staying power in the summer rocker genre.
The Houston, Texas singer and part time songwriter trades in the his gritty vocal prowess for an injected vocal that reads almost like a rap, and hits every note to infuse some “Fishin’ in the Dark” to a little Gulf Coast country. Its Jimmy Buffett meets Kenny Chesney meets a bare-footed guitar riff from the Gods – and it’s the anthem of the summer.
