John Rich "Shuttin' Detroit Down"
.

John Rich has never been accused of being "untimely". He's been involved with Politics over the past year or so, supporting John McCain publicly. Now Rich has got his solo-act hat in the ring.
This is Rich's second start on Son Of A Preacher Man, his first single "Another You" stalled quick. "Shuttin' Detroit Down" is a much more timely song, though, and its already ripping up Country Music charts. The production ont this song is very good, and the multi-talented John Rich may have his first solo Top 10 with "Shuttin Detroit Down"

Reviews
Like snake oil, however, what sounds good on the surface is often found to contain little of substance. Aside from the fact that there’s something unsettling about a celebrity-obsessed multi-millionaire preaching about the plight of the everyman, “Shuttin’ Detroit Down” is a topical attempt at discussing a very complicated problem. With "Shuttin' Detroit Down," John Rich not only has gotten himself on the radio, he's got himself a song that should generate single and album sales and it actually is the kind of song the audience wants hear. - Roughstock
I know John Rich can be kind of well…a jerk. He knows it. We know it. But you gotta give him kudos for speakin his mind. All of us sit around complaining about stuff, but too many of us are afraid to actually say something…or we make ourselves anonymous… - Country Music Tattle tail

"Shuttin' Detroit Down" Lyrics
My daddy taught me that in this country everyone’s the same You work hard for your dollar and you never pass the blame When it don’t go your way Now I see all these big shots whinin’ on my evening news About how they’re losin’ billions and how it’s up to me and you To come running to the rescue Well pardon me if I don’t shed a tear ‘cause they’re selling make believe And we don’t buy that here Cause in the real world there shuttin' Detroit down While the boss man takes his bonus pay and jets out of town/ And DC’s bailing out the bankers as the farmers auction ground, Yeah while they’re living it up on Wall Street in that New York City town, Here in the real world there shuttin’ Detroit down. They’re shuttin’ Detroit down.” Well that old man’s been workin’ in that plant most all of his life Now his pension plan’s been cut in half and he can’t afford to die And it’s a crying shame, ‘cause he ain’t the one to blame When I look down and see his caloused hands, Let me tell you friend it gets me fightin’ mad Cause in the real world there shutting Detroit down While the boss man takes his bonus pay and jets out of town/ And DC’s bailing out the bankers as the farmers auction ground, Yeah while they’re living it up on Wall Street in that New York City town, Here in the real world there shuttin’ Detroit down. They’re shuttin’ Detroit down.” Yeah while there’ living it up on Wall Street in that New York City town Here in the real world there shuttin’ Detroit down Here in the real world there shuttin’ Detroit down In the real world they’re shuttin Detroit down, they’re shuttin’ Detroit down.
