Justin Moore's headin' to the Backwoods
Justin Moore took country music by storm when he emerged with some backwoods edge and attitude in 2008. His past singles have seen him representing the “Small Town U.S.A.” that he’s from, as well as a little club country, but his new single has him rocking with some real fight and bite – as well as a nod to influences Brooks and Dunn.
The third single from the singer’s debut album released in August 2009, “Backwoods” is real rockin’ country. The song follows on the heels of the successful “Back That Thing Up” and his number one smash “Small Town U.S.A,” and has helped climb his record to as high as number three on the country charts.
“Backwoods” is a nod to country living, the same way as “Boondocks” by little big town or “Hillbilly Deluxe” by Brooks and Dunn, which borrows its opening line to the new song.
“Down in the backwoods, out in the holler,” sings Moore in the song’s chorus, the lyric Kix and Ronnie used to open their hit of 2005. But Moore’s “Backwoods” maintains a personality all its own, with the singer’s vocal tenacity and a very electrified guitar track. The song opens with a riff that could have come from the best of rock’s guitarists, and continues with an driving drum line that carries Moore through the building couplet verses to the hook.
The song is about working hard and playing, tough time and good time, and knowing in the end that “Lordy, it’s a real good life.” And the singer’s performance owns the songs, which he writes himself, like few others rocking in country could.
Energy and edge are the name of Moore’s game and his style, and “Backwoods” is likely to be a country anthem as the young singer continues to grow a following around the big and small towns of the U.S.A.

"Backwoods" Lyrics
Rifle in a gun rack hanging in the back glass
Buck knife on my belt, ain't no land for sale 'round here
Red clay country mud, sippin' on a cold Bud
Blue tick coon hound you know when I'm found out in the
Backwoods down in the holler
Out in the backwoods, workin' hard for a dollar in the
Backwoods yeah we get it done right
Work hard, play hard, hold my baby tight
Lordy have mercy it's a real good life
In the backwoods, yes sir
Preacher's daughter couldn't get hotter
Floating that river on an inner tube with her, splash
35's and a lift kit how stuck can you get
Ain't that just my luck where's the chain I'm stuck out in the
Backwoods down in the holler
Out in the backwoods, workin' hard for a dollar in the
Backwoods yeah we get it done right
Work hard, play hard, hold my baby tight
Lordy have mercy it's a real good life
In the backwoods, son
Out in the backwoods down in the holler
Out in the backwoods, workin' hard for a dollar in the
Backwoods yeah we get it done right
Work hard, play hard, hold my baby tight
Lordy have mercy it's a real good life
In the backwoods, down in the holler son
