Lady Antebellum "Need You Now"
Review by Amy Blizzard

For Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood, the three band members whom comprise the trio Lady Antebellum, the lives they led as struggling musicians in Music City in search of their big break are now a thing of the past. With their widely praised self-titled, debut album, they have quickly broken out onto the country music charts and into the spotlight with an unprecedented three hit singles, popular videos in heavy rotation on CMT and prestigious awards and nominations that granted them the respect and attention of their peers and love from their ever-growing fan base.

Wisely aiming to strike while the iron is still red hot, Lady Antebellum have already gone back into the recording studio and are hard at work piecing together their second album with the Nashville division of Capitol Records, currently set for an early release in 2010, and are giving the country crowd a snippet of what is to come with the lead-off single 'Need You Now.'
In the stirring mid-tempo, written by the trio with a helping hand from Josh Kear, Scott and Kelley act as ex-lovers laden with romantic feelings that have yet to fade as they try to move on with life without one another. Both parties are haunted by memories of happier times together and wonder if the other person is as miserable as they are now and if thoughts of them ever cross their mind. Then, during a late night filled with unbearable loneliness and the assistance of a little liquid courage, they reach out to one another and confess how desperately they need each other right now.
For Lady Antebellum, the song continues in the vein of palatable modern country that is making them a household name, but also manages to show signs of growth in their musicality and lyrical content. Much like The Lost Trailers' current single 'All This Love', they incorporate a scant touch of blues, which can sometimes end in disaster, into the song with memorable piano sections that add to the overall appeal and enhance the melancholy mood along with the expected guitar riffs and strong chorus. And this time around, Hillary Scott shares more of the leading vocals than she has in previous singles and proves she is more than up to the challenge and shines brightly without overshadowing her band mates.
If 'Need You Now' is any indication of what lies ahead for Lady Antebellum, they are safely on their way to claiming their fourth hit single and continuing their string of success into 2010.
