The Band Perry "Hip To My Heart"
Review by Matthew Fortuna
A reincarnation of country attitude and harmony, The Band Perry invokes artists of group’s as diverse as Gloriana, Little Big Town and Jessica Harp. The group consists of siblings Kimberly Perry on lead vocals and piano, Reid Perry on bass guitar and Neil Perry on mandolin and drums, and is the newest sensation from Republic Records.

Will Country Radio be Hip To The Band Perry?
Signed in August 2009, the band’s first single is the catchy and infectious “Hip To My Heart,” which is the expected first release to an upcoming debut album. The song’s lyrics and vocal style remind listeners of Harp’s sexy and suggestive “Boy Like Me,” and feature a performance from an obviously virtuoso set of musicians in The Band Perry.
Born in Mobile, Alabama, the siblings have been performing music since they were 15 and were a featured act on Coca-Cola’s “New Faces of Country” Tour. Since their stint with that show, the group have gained a small following, a fan base with producers and managers such as Paul Worley and Bob Doyle, Garth Brooks’ manager, and have began work on a new album and making impact on the charts.
“Hip to My Heart,” is a playful look at a new relationship by the new singer, and the band’s takes the same youthful approach as Gloriana’s successful “Young at Heart” in delivering a song exuberant in young love and butterflies.
Kimberly Perry has been compared favorably to Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland, and the singer is the lead of this obviously talented threesome that offers a rocking and different sound than the straight harmonies of similar bands.
Sure to emerge with their new sound into the hearts of a number of fans around the world, the Band Parry has the cohesive strength that a family who grew up playing music together should, and they have the talent and sound to create a following in the genre. Fans should not be surprised to see them opening for some of the larger acts in country music in the coming year, as this band’s popularity begins to skyrocket.
