Tim McGraw "Southern Voice"

request Tim McGraw "Southern Voice"
Tim McGraw emerges with “Southern Voice” as he so often does – with a pure Southern anthem that is sure to be a hit both below and above the Mason-Dixon. The new single is his second off of his highly anticipated first studio album since 2007’s “Let It Go.” The album is set to be released 22 October, and is filled with material that McGraw has been playing live in concert since his 2008 summer tour.

“Southern Voice” follows on the heels of “It’s a Business Doing Pleasure With You,” and changes the tone from fun and romantic, to proud and purely Southern. The song salutes all that is good from the South side of the country, and McGraw allows his songwriting to lay out a blueprint for all that is to be honored in a country life – from Jesus and America, to Jerry Lee and Daytona Beach.

The single is comes from McGraw’s tenth studio album in 16 years and is his 53rd single, nearly half of which have reached the number one spot on country charts. Tim McGraw looks to break out of a slump

Tim McGraw's got that Southern Voice

Tim McGraw's got that Southern Voice

with Southern Voice, and hopes to reach number one for only the second time in 14 single releases, and he may have just found the formula for that with some Charlie Daniels, Crimson Tide and Allman Brothers lovin’

The song is a rocker with a prominent guitar, and a typical Tim McGraw twang. The vocal delivery is, as ever, confident and pure country, and McGraw shows that his “Southern Voice” is like few others. The song serves as a shot of energy on an album that is darker than most of his offerings, and it is sure to serve to pump up any concert crowd, barbeque, country party or bonfire.

McGraw throws out some cheer-inducing mentions to all the hallmarks of country life – Hank Williams, number 3, Dolly Parton, Jack Daniels and Dr. King. He goes to Bear Bryant and Billy Graves, and even Michael Jordan and Hank Aaron. McGraw hopes to one day be included among those named in a “Southern Voice” rendition of future generations, and with the career he has amassed, he is sure to be there.

The 9513 calls it pandering drivel ;  Roughstock says the chorus saves it

"Southern Voice" Lyrics

Hank Williams sang it
Number 3 drove it
Chuck Berry twanged it
Will Farmer wrote it
Aretha Franklin sold it
Dolly Parton graced it
Rosa Parks rode it
Scarlett O chased it

Smooth as the hickory wind
That blows from Memphis
Down to Appalachia Coal
It's hi ya'll did ya eat well
Come on in I'm
Sure glad to know ya
Don't let this old goat cross
In this Almond Brothers t-shirt and throw ya
It's cicadas making noise
With the southern voice

Hank Aaron smacked it
Michael Jordan dunked it
Pocahantas tracked it
Jack Daniels drunk it
Tom Petty rocked it
Dr. King paved it
Bear Bryant won it
Billy Graves saved it

Smooth as the hickory wind
That blows from Memphis
Down to Appalachia Coal
It's hi ya'll did ya eat well
Come on in I'm
Sure glad to know ya
Don't let this old goat cross
In this Crimson Tide t-shirt and throw ya
It's cicadas making noise
With the southern voice

Jesus is my friend
America is my home
Sweet iced tea and Jerry Lee
Daytona Beach
That's what gets to me
I can feel it in my bones

Smooth as the hickory wind
That blows from Memphis
Down to Appalachia Coal
It's hi ya'll did ya eat well
Come on in child
I'm sure glad to know ya
Don't let this old goat cross
In this Charlie Daniels t-shirt and throw ya
We're just boys making noise
With the southern voice

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Southern Voice
I got a southern voice
A southern voice

  1. I knew when I heard these songs 2 years ago, they would be a hit- too bad it’s been so long in coming! I love Southern Voice- it gives us a little bit of history with a down country/ football tapping time. Still- is a great love song, You Had To Be Ther- a dad who was never there for his son, I’m sure Tim can relate to this. If I Died Today- makes one rethink their life, and I could go on and on- but I’ll just say THANK YOU TIM! Thrilled Tim’s Album hit # 1, and I’m even more thrilled Tim did it without a lot of radio stations help, for some reason they did’nt choose to play. Thanks to those country stations that have played it!

  2. [...] few hits of his own as a songwriter, including “Ghost Town Train” from Tim McGraw’s latest “Southern Voice,” and Blake Shelton’s 2009 hit “I’ll Just Hold [...]
